Ottawa County Republicans' Newsletter

October 30, 2025  03:3

Editor's Preamble:

Hello Ottawa County Republicans,

Are we surprised that Democrats are playing games with the livelihood of single-parent and military families in our communities? Sadly, we are not. The word on the street is that the Dems will continue to keep the Government closed through the November 4 election next week in order to boost turnout for the New Jersey and Virginia Governor's races.

As Republicans, we are not fans of entitlement programs for obvious reasons, yet neither are we fans of hurting people who do in fact, need help with food security, like Veterans and single mothers. We are thinking of single moms for example, who DID choose to have their babies instead of choosing abortion.

Although government bloat for these programs does exist and we would like to see the system overhauled, we recognize the Trump Administration has already initiated legislation passed by Congress which put the work incentive back into welfare programs.

Therefore, we are asking every citizen to contact Michigan Senators Slotkin and Peters and tell them to join John Fetterman of PA, Catherine Cortez-Masto of NV and Angus King of MN who have voted regularly for the past 2 weeks to reopen the federal government.

In the meantime, enjoy our Newsletter! **There's a lot of important information here, especially election information on next week's Ottawa County Elections next Tuesday, November 4!

Senator Slotkin's Phone: #(202)-224-4822
Senator Peters' Phone: #(202) 224-6221

Blendon Township Update...

By now, most Ottawa County residents have heard about the fight the citizens and residents of Blendon Township are having with the Blendon Township Board. If you haven't heard about this issue, please read our background information and current update about what is going on in Blendon Township, because even if you don't live in or near Blendon, this exact same problem could be in your own backyard (literally) very soon due to PA 233, which is legislation that was passed in Lansing by the Democratically controlled Congress in 2023. PA 233 takes power away from Townships and Municipalities and gives it to the State Government. It is important to remain informed in order to know what we are up against here in Ottawa County.

--The above photograph is from a Blendon Township Board Meeting on September 15 where a massive turnout of residents came to speak against the destruction of farmland in Blendon that would create a burning-evacuation zone with a 5-mile radius around the site, impacting all of Allendale Public Schools' buildings and many resident farms and homes.

Is There Anything You Can Do?

YES!  1. Come to the next public meeting in Blendon Township and use your voice to speak against it on November 5, at 7:00 pm, at The Borculo Christian School Gymnasium, at 6830 96th Avenue
Zeeland, MI 49464.

2. You can also follow a Facebook group called The Blendon Bulletin for more information.

3. Below, you can also sign this citizen's petition which helps place public pressure on the Legislature in Lansing to repeal Public Act 233 in order to restore control back to the citizens in Townships and Municipalities. Every single residents in Ottawa County should want this. The residents of Blendon never thought anything like this could happen to their peaceful community and now their very homesteads are in danger.

Volunteer Highlight

We've had a change in leadership here at the Party. Our fearless leader Brendan Muir, got married this past summer. Brendan is still an active member and volunteers with us, yet in the meantime the Executive Committee has voted in Joel Studebaker of Jamestown as Chair and also Geri McCaleb of Grand Haven Township as Vice Chair. Both Joel and Geri serve our organization with tenacity and dedication. They are what servant leadership is all about.

Local Culture

We thought you should know....

These two articles, one from Restoring Ottawa and the other from The Grand Haven Tribune tell the story.

Krystal Boyd, Owner of Grand Haven's Unicorn Tavern and a Grand Haven Area Public School-Board Member Arrested for Operating While Under Intoxication...

Restoring Ottawa Banner

Grand Haven Area Public Schools Board of Ed Trustee Arraigned for Operating While Intoxicated...Why won't Krystal Boyd resign from the Grand Haven Board of Ed? *Your guess is as good as ours. We understand that people make mistakes and yet at the very same time it also seems that the children of Grand Haven Area Pubic Schools deserve leadership who would perhaps have better judgement.

Also Local Culture Grand Haven...

The owners of a Grand Haven Brewery known as Berserk Brewing expressed some openly disdainful comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk on their personal Facebook pages.

This upset many local citizens who are tired of watching their community become divisively split on hateful political sides. They miss the good old days of when Grand Haven was a lovely vacation spot where anyone was welcome everywhere in town. Yet, when a local business (more than one in recent years) comes out and says they don't want any conservatives to come to their establishment and that they are "glad" Charlie is dead while accusing Charlie of being racist without any researched proof of such an accusation, the citizens took it upon themselves to protest the intentional divisiveness in their community.

See Coverage at the links below. *The story is more complete if you view both posts. You must have a Facebook account to see the information.
