Ottawa County Republicans' Newsletter

Editor's Preamble:

Are you tired of looking at this map-graphic yet? We didn't think so! We're not tired of it yet either! It is beautiful. A red Michigan is even more beautiful!

Live Election Results

So, although we are disappointed Mike Rogers didn't win the US Senate seat and that Paul Hudson did not prevail against Hillary Scholten (we are still studying these outcomes), we continue to work on Michigan, because we truly believe Michigan is a center-right State, not anywhere close to as blue as the media tells people it is.

*We have some compliments and gratitude for you, the Ottawa County voters, below! Please take a moment to take in your well-deserved accomplishment of this election.

Trump Force 47 taught the citizenry how to target low-propensity voters and how to make this election "too big to rig." We held six Trump Force events, one in Grand Haven and three in Holland. Also we had two Action Seminars where Trump Captains came back for additional help and teaching.

GVSU Brave Booth

Something special happened in Ottawa County during the election at GVSU. *Commissioner Sylvia Rhodea, initiated the setting up a table called "Brave," emphasizing the Future Belongs to the Brave. Over the course of the six weeks prior to the election, the booth met hundreds of Grand Valley college students. The students were so enthusiastic to welcome the Brave booth on campus. They LOVED the merch supplied by the Trump Force, including dorm-window signs, stickers and pamphlets as well as information about Sylvia Rhodea's campaign for Commissioner.

*One fact that cannot be doctored or denied by the media [although we suspect they may try] is that Sylvia Rhodea is, in fact, impassioned by and for our community's youth. When Rhodea says she wants to "protect kids," she clearly means it. Interacting with a contingency of college students who carry Ottawa and America's bright future, she did this daily throughout the election when as a candidate, she could have spent her time and resources investing in other endeavors.

Rhodea had a great staff of volunteers as well who worked the Brave booth at GVSU along with her. The testimonials and videos of happy, hopeful college students is indeed inspiring.

For those who have Facebook: Here are some links to various post reels where you can't help but see the gratitude and joy of the college students who came to the Brave Booth. Take the time to experience the interactions with these young, conservative voters in the links below. They are so smart and informed! *It will warm your heart and renew your faith in the future of America and Ottawa County!

Volunteer Highlight

Geri McCaleb

Precinct Delegate, Executive Committee Member and the Former Mayor of Grand Haven

Geri Mc Caleb is a unique human being. Aside from her vast experience in the Republican Party, as well as her experience in local Government, she is also an excellent writer and columnist. She is so much so, that up until recently, she was a Community Columnist for the Grand Haven Tribune, who published her column at least once per month.

This is a time where we can all agree that the recent election results were a repudiation of many things, not the least of which is a biased media that favors Democrats and constantly tilts the truth. The American people have grown tired of media falsehoods, so much so that they are in the process of embracing newer forms of media, such as podcasts and social influencers in recent years, instead of traditional media.

However, Geri's column had always been representative of a reasonable, conservative view in the Grand Haven Tribune. Her articles have been informative and factual, sharing a different perspective with the public than what is the more typical outcome of the Tribune's messaging.

On October 10, 2024, Geri submitted her monthly column and for the first time ever, received back a dispute, explaining that they refused to publish her piece this time. Her piece focuses on Title IX, which we know was a hot topic this past election cycle as well as rightfully criticizes VP Harris' inability to put forward an articulate message. The Tribune cited these as some of their reasons to reject the piece.

So, we would like you to take the Op-Ed challenge: read Geri's piece and see if you can figure out why a Newspaper...during an election cycle ...wouldn't want the Grand Haven citizenry to read this as an alternative view:

This is the article Geri wrote and submitted on October 10, 2024 the Grand Haven Tribune refused to publish.

*Geri is clear to point out on her personal Facebook page that the Tribune's refusal to publish is of course their right. However, since the time of the Tribune's refusal to publish her piece, Geri has resigned as a Community Columnist to the Grand Haven Tribune because she will no longer associate herself with a publication that won't tell the public more than a single point of view.

We are grateful for her dedication and attention to the OCRP and very much appreciate her contributions on the Executive Committee. Geri loves the Grand Haven community and always seeks to grow the area for her Republican values.

Thank you Geri, for standing with your values for journalistic integrity. Here at the OCRP, we believe you have an important voice and we hope the Tribune will consider changing their ways.

This is Geri on the left in the above picture, celebrating at the people's Press Conference we held back in July! Geri is a delight and value to our greater community and the local Party. Thank you for serving Ottawa County Geri!

Business Spotlight

Doggie Detailing and Resort

What do dogs have to do with politics?? This is an excellent question! *The OCRP recommends this business owned by constitutional conservatives in our community who loves your animal as much as you do and offers the very best service for your pets in the County. It offers Daycare, Overnight Care and also offers Spa services. They also have all of these services for cats as well.

Christi Meppelink's Swiss Vegetable Medley

We loved this switch-up on green bean casserole! Try it this holiday for something new, or if you're tired of green beans. It is a delicious comfort side dish for any night of Fall or Winter, but especially Thanksgiving!

Swiss Vegetable Medley

1 bag (16 oz.) frozen California blend vegetables, thawed and drained

1 can (10-3/4 oz) cream of mushroom soup

1 cup (4 oz.) shredded Swiss cheese, divided

1/3 cup sour cream

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1 can (2.8 oz.) French fried onions, divided

Directions

-Combine vegetables, soup, sour cream, 1/2 cup of the Swiss cheese, pepper and a half can of the  French fried onions.

-Pour into a 1 quart casserole dish.

-Bake covered at 350° for 30 minutes.

-Top with remaining cheese and french-fried onions.

-Bake uncovered five minutes longer.

Christi's Notes: Double the recipe for family gatherings! This was a favorite recipe from my Mom and the dish is also a precious reminder of my sweet “other” Mom (in-law).

Our Veterans our arguably our most important citizens. Uniquely, they don't think about themselves this way. They are humble and proud to have served. As we approach a season of gratitude, we acknowledge we owe our Veterans everything we have in America and we honor them. Many of us will  see  Veterans over the Thanksgiving holiday and will remember to share our gratitude.
