August Newsletter 2025 and Special 2A Event!

Ottawa County Republicans' Newsletter

August 28, 2025  01:3

 Editor's Preamble:

Hello Ottawa County Republicans!

It's hard to believe the Fall season is upon us. The chilly air has felt a little abrupt, but indeed, colleges have opened and students all over West Michigan are back in class. We had a terrific experience at GVSU's Campus Life night this past Sunday! *Make sure you see the story below.

Also below, we tell you about a Second Amendment Celebration Event coming up in October! It's our 2A Freedom Fair where people of all experience levels can learn and/or compete using a variety of different types of firearms through the instruction and protection of Range Safety Officers. Beginners, as well as experienced levels are welcome to participate. We are grateful to be partnering with the North Ottawa Rod and Gun Club in Grand Haven Township, which has recently remodeled their grounds. Their facility is stunning, so please make sure to read the information about the Freedom Fair!

We also have an update on the ongoing contentious issue in Blendon Township over a proposed lithium battery storage facility in our AREA NEWS section.

Enjoy the Newsletter and these happy faces of OCRP Young Republicans!

Taken August 24!

Area News

Have you heard about the fight the citizens and residents of Blendon Township are having with the Blendon Township Board? Several of our Precinct Delegates who live in Blendon Township, a rural, agricultural area of Hudsonville are leading the charge on organizing to help prevent a Korean owned company called "Key Capture Energy" from installing a 12-acre wide lithium battery plant in their Township.

There are several articles here that can help bring you up to speed and inform you. *Please take the time. If they win by destroying 12 acres of agricultural land in Blendon, your own neighborhood could be next.

Excellent work here by the Hollander, a newer media outlet here in Ottawa County.

*This first piece gives you the history of Key Capture Energy and how it came to be that an area of Ottawa County was targeted.

Residents Don’t Want 14 Acres of Lithium Battery Energy Storage in Blendon Township...

This second piece below, reports the community's response to KCE and BESS at the last Board meeting, held on Monday, August 18.

Blendon Township Residents Speak Against Plans for Battery Energy Storage...

For the Blendon Township Board, conversations over a proposed battery energy storage system have been taking place over the last few years. For the residents, the plan has only come to light in the last couple of months.

Is There Anything You Can Do?

Fortunately, yes. A resident of Blendon Township, former OCRP Chair Brendan Muir, started an online petition. If you live or work in Blendon or in a neighboring area, please sign the petition. Nearly 1200 residents have signed already. It will help bring awareness. *Also, you can attend the next public meeting in Blendon Township and use your voice to speak against it on September 15, at 7:00 pm, 7161 72nd Ave., in Hudsonville. In the meantime, click the Blendon pic to sign or the link provided below it.

Local Health

Parents, This is a survey that schools throughout Ottawa County give to students in grades 8, 10 and 12. The last time they issued this assessment was in 2023. They are doing it again this school year. *The questions that are asked are highly inappropriate and an invasion of your school-aged student's privacy. The results of this survey are not shared with the parents/families of the student. The questions are sexually explicit and not something students should be blindsided with in a school setting, but rather discussed at home with their own parents and/or guardians, at a time when parents and guardians decide the appropriate age of development for their child to have such discussions.

We have provided links for you to read what was issued in 2023. To read the survey, click HERE

You have the right to interact with your child's school and OPT OUT.

*Contact your child's school and inform them you are opting your child out of the 2025 YAS Survey.
