FAQ
- What are the specific requirements surrounding the participation of Minors? Minors 12+ are welcome to participate in shooting if they have previous shooting experience and are accompanied by an adult. 12+ minors without shooting experience also welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult for archery option. Youth bows will be provided.
- May I bring my own firearm to use for shooting events at the Freedom Fair? It depends on which events you choose to participate in. For *Rifle or *Pistol shooting, you may NOT use your own firearm. For Rifle and Pistol events, NORGC will provide firearms for you. You may however, bring your own firearm [shotgun] for Sporting Clay or Bird Flurry Events. If you wish to shoot Sporting Clays or Bird Flurry, yet do not own your own shotgun, one may be rented from NORGC for $30.
- What Classroom Information will be available and when specifically is the Classroom time? Classroom tutorials will be available during off-shoot times between events. This is an opportunity to learn some firearm basics as well as information regarding MCL Laws surrounding gun ownership in Michigan.
- What is an RSO and what is their role in the event? "RSO" stands for Range Safety Officer. RSO's are certified by the NRA after completing a Range Safety Officer Course through the NRA that includes hands-on training followed by a hands-on examination of all firearms, as well as a written examination. They are experts in firearm safety. RSO's monitor range activities to ensure safety for all participants.
- Can I bring my own ammo? No. Ammo will be provided for you and is included in the price of your ticket to ensure the safety of all participants. Ammunitions can be purchased in such wide variety and often one brand dispels differently from one to the next or may not be suitable for steel targets. When everyone uses the same type, the RSO's can more easily anticipate what to expect in order to ensure everyone's safety.
- What do I do when it's not my turn to shoot? Watch your fellow shooters at one of the events! There will also be informational classes in the clubhouse during the shooting event times. Shooters will be scheduled in 30 min blocks at each of the events they signed up for.
- Are ear and eye protection required? Yes, everyone must wear ear and eye protection while shooting and while standing near others who are shooting. *Ear and Eye Protection will be provided and is included in the price of your ticket.* [Experienced shooters are welcome to bring their own if they prefer.]
- Is the archery just for minors or can adults do it too? Currently, the archery is for minors, but we hope to have some demos from local archery stores for you to try.
- What if I'm a first-time shooter? Is it really okay for beginners to participate? Absolutely. Range Safety Officers and Instructors will help you if this is your first time shooting [or first time in a long time]. The RSO's/Instructor's full-time job at this event is to make sure that you are safe and have a positive experience. *Also, if you've participated in some shooting but need/would like some tips on accuracy, grip, or stance, etc., you can ask for and receive instruction while you're at the line.
- Can anyone come for lunch? Yes, anyone can join for lunch. A lunch ticket can be purchased separately, yet lunch is included in all package purchases to the Freedom Fair.
