Introducing Laurie Burks, Volunteer Coordinator, pictured here with her beautiful family

One the past year, we've had the privilege of getting to know the wonderful Laurie Burks! She is an important Volunteer for the Party, so we wanted for you to get to know her too! We asked her f ew question to assist the process. Enjoy!

What do you love most about Ottawa county? 

I love the godly heritage and people that make Ottawa County such a wonderful place to raise a family. I also love our beautiful lakeshore. We have family who live in other parts of the country who had no idea of the beautiful beaches that we have here. It’s a best kept secret!

Why did you become a Precinct Delegate?

I had never heard of a Precinct Delegate until a friend invited me to join her in becoming one, in order to take action on the government overreach issues that were exposed during Covid. We had been complaining about many issues, and being a Precinct Delegate actually provided an opportunity to be productive in providing a solution.

We understand you volunteer some of your time in the Jenison School District. Please tell us about your work!

I am parent representative on the Sex Ed Advisory Board at Jenison Public Schools. This advisory board is required for every public school that has a human reproduction education program and is responsible for reviewing and recommending curriculum to the local school board. I have seen the attack on our children and felt a calling and responsibility to help preserve the innocence of children and protect the role of parents as the primary educators of their children. 

--I have also been involved in a parent group that is responsible for bringing awareness to parents and our community about what our children are being taught in the schools and activating parents to become more involved in the education of their children.

What are some of the volunteer opportunities you take advantage of serving as a delegate in the Ottawa County Republican Party? 

I have been connecting volunteers to areas of service in the Ottawa County Republican Party where they are gifted and have interest and capacity to assist. That being said, there are numerous opportunities to contribute through the following party activities: Administration, Campaign, Fundraising, Event-planning, Prayer Team, Election Integrity, Communications, Networking/relationship-building, Delegate Training, and Volunteer Coordination. Is there anything you do for fun? A favorite pass-time or hobby?

I enjoy spending time with family and friends, going on dates with my husband, studying The Bible, and working out.
