Update on the Board of Commissioners
It is not very often when one hears the right and the left AGREE on the value of the United States Constitution, so we found this to be quite noteworthy.
One January 13, 2026, Chair Joel Studebaker gave public comment at a regular meeting of the Board of Commissioners. The issue at hand was the undo treatment of removing former Chair Joe Moss from all subcommittees in the County that are the most impactful and of value by Board Chair Josh Brugger, such as Finance and Administration and Planning and Policy. Moss had also expressed interest/willingness to serve on ASCET, the Area Community Services Employment and Training Council. Chair Brugger brought this item forward anyway to have Moss removed from these subcommittees which did pass by a 6-5 vote. Therefore Commissioner Moss was removed from the specific subcommittees mentioned and was not added to ASCET either. This came across to many as unconstitutional as well as vengeful, including community members from the left and from the right who spoke against it.

Friends, when a member of the left in Ottawa doesn't like what they are seeing from new leadership on the BOC, agreeing with right? There's a problem on the BOC. We've often held some of the Commissioners accountable on several occasions for not behaving as Republicans. It turns out however, they may not be a very good Democrats either. When one is altogether unconstitutional to the degree that they cannot please either Party, we're wondering what they are actually in government to accomplish.
Also of note, Commissioner Zylstra (D), voted with the Ottawa Impact majority against these actions, distinguishing himself as a Constitutionalist in this meeting. **We respect this.
