We are had great Executive Committee Meetings on October 23 and November 20. We made time for candidate forums, which is an important opportunity for the candidates in races for Michigan Secretary of State and Attorney General, to introduce themselves to the EC and Delegates and for Delegates to ask questions to the candidates. *Unlike the race for Governor, the individuals candidates for these two races are voted on by the precinct delegates at State convention this coming March 26. Michigan has held closed primaries for these two races in Michigan for many decades on both the Republican and Democrat side.
We are pleased to report that many of our precinct Delegates have taken these opportunities to hear from these candidates and attend. Benjamin Franklin said that America has “a Republic if we can keep it” and in Ottawa County, the Republic is alive and well as our delegates engage in the electoral process, using their First Amendment rights, asking excellent questions for these candidates.
In December, we will host more candidates running for these individual races in order to hear from all of the candidates should those who haven't attended yet find their way to Ottawa. Then, on January 22nd, the OCRP will hold a mini-convention whereby the delegates will attend and vote for the candidates for SOS, AG and University Regents/Trustees that they would like to have as their candidate of choice on the 2026 ballot.
So far, for the Secretary of State, we've heard from Monica Yatooma and Timothy Smith. For Attornery General, we've heard from Kevin Kiljewski. Additionally, some other candidates from additional state races who have also stopped by to greet out delegation. At our last meeting, we were graced by Joseph Fox who is running for the District 33 Senate seat being vacated by Roger Victory at the end of 2026.
