The People's Press Conference

The Ottawa County Republican Party held the People's Press Conference on the evening of July 29, 2024 in Allendale. In spite of an extreme downpour of rain, the community came out in high numbers to support our endorsed candidates! All of the [local] OCRP’s endorsed candidates were in attendance. 

Many members of the media were present as well, including representatives of the many various forms of media.

Brendan Muir, the Ottawa Republican Chair was the press-conference host and endorsed President Trump. He also spoke eloquently of the richness of Ottawa’s heritage and its conservative roots, reiterating again the Republican Delegation’s overwhelming support for the vetted, endorsed candidates.

His speech was followed by Greg Todd, endorsed candidate for Ottawa County Prosecutor,  who also shared inspiring remarks about the heart of Ottawa County and the importance of securing Ottawa’s liberty and ensuring its justice. 

Commissioner Gretchen Cosby of District 1 followed, shared the accomplishments of the Ottawa County Board of Commissioners over the past 19 months, including the special nature of the new and expanded Department of Veterans Affairs. 

Next, we heard from two precinct delegates as well: 

Robinson Township’s PJ Muir and Zeeland Township’s Christi Meppelink.

Veteran PJ Muir shared percentages and facts about veterans in Ottawa County and his own desire to see things continue to go on a conservative track in Ottawa for Veterans.

Christi Meppelink spoke about parental rights and the importance of these rights staying uniquely in the hands of parents and applauded the BOC’s commitment to this as well. She memorably reminded the Public that voting isn’t enough to ensure that our public officials represent us as they promised and that getting involved is key. 

Commissioner Sylvia Rhodea of District 8 followed, by speaking of the importance of voting for vetted conservatives on August 6th. Rhodea endorsed President Trump and spoke greatly of his strength and patriotism being an example to follow. The crowd roared in support of Trump and Rhodea’s referenced example. 

Lastly, Party Chair, Brendan Muir, concluded the Press Conference by encouraging the Public to go to OttawaGOP.org to download the Voter Guide. 

The event was a huge success and reminded us once again why individuals who serve the community for the sake of community are better-candidate choices than those who seek to advance themselves with a liberal agenda for Ottawa, by misleading the Public about their untrue “republican’ identity.
