Two Years Later, It’s Clear: Obama’s “Recovery Summer” Failed

Lansing, Mich. June 18, 2012 – Today marks two years ago since President Obama declared the start of the ‘Recovery Summer,’ but as we now know, middle class families are still “recovering” from Obama’s failed policies. The Michigan Republican Party today released a web ad <http://link.sc.states.gop.com?46-2283-2344-231761-15658>  marking the second anniversary of Obama’s failed “Recovery Summer.”

<http://link.sc.states.gop.com?46-2283-2344-231761-15658> Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak issued the following statement:

“Under President Obama, middle class families have been hammered and today more than 23 million Americans continue to look for work. Michigan families cannot afford any more empty rhetoric and broken promises from their president. Obama’s tried and failed,  it’s time for a new direction and America’s recovery begins on Nov. 6 when we elect Mitt Romney as president.”

Since Obama took office, more than three and half years ago, unemployment has remained above 8 percent for a historic 40 months. Last month, reports indicated that nationally, job creation came to a near stand-still, and as a result unemployment rose. No matter how the Obama campaign tries to spin their failures, middle class families are still struggling to recover from Obama’s failed policies.

Romney-Obama tie in Michigan

For the second week in a row, a new poll has come out with Mitt Romney and Barack Obama in a statistical dead heat in Michigan.

In a new poll by Foster McCollum White & Associates and Baydoun Consulting, President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney are in a statistical dead heat, 46.89% to 45.48%, respectively.

Today’s poll results come on the heels of an Epic-MRA poll released last week, showing Mitt Romney leading Barack Obama by 1 percentage point.

Middle class families across the country have felt the severe and harmful effects of Obama’s failed economic policies. Mitt Romney is a proven leader who has created jobs, led major organizations, and has the experience and plan to put middle class families first.

In the “more bad news” section for Michigan Democrats, today’s poll indicates that voters are less inclined to support Obama due to the ongoing Democratic scandal in Wayne County.

Wayne County Democrats have made it a habit of abusing tax dollars, handing out lavish six figure severance packages to employees who leave voluntarily and accepting $23,000 a year bonuses for simply doing their own job.

Today’s poll demonstrates that taxpayers are sick and tired of this abuse and they are holding Democrats in Wayne County and Washington, DC responsible for abusing the system and wasting tax dollars.

Stabenow’s priorities are scrambled

No budget bill, but aggressively pushes $969 billion bill that regulates eggs

Lansing, Mich., June 13, 2012 – Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak issued the following statement concerning Sen. Stabenow’s refusal to pass a budget while aggressively pursuing a $969 billion “Farm Bill” that regulates how hens hatch eggs.

“Sen. Debbie Stabenow is out of touch with Michigan families. Despite her seniority within the Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate and a member of the Budget Committee, she refuses to pursue a budget. Meanwhile, Stabenow is aggressively pushing for a vote on her farm bill that regulates how eggs are hatched. Stabenow’s priorities are clearly scrambled. Michigan families are constantly faced with tough household budget decisions, but Sen. Debbie Stabenow refuses to present and vote on a budget that involves our tax dollars.

“Clearly, Sen. Stabenow is out of touch, she’s forgotten that the money she spends in DC comes out of the pocketbooks of hardworking middle class families across Michigan. This is why she’s prioritized the passage of a $969 billion bill that regulates eggs ahead of a budget bill.

“One has to wonder if her support for one piece of legislation costing nearly $1 trillion corresponds with her refusal to vote on a budget for more than three years.

“Michigan families deserve a U.S. Senator dedicated to pursuing common sense solutions that put families first and that Senator is not Debbie Stabenow.”

Romney leading Obama in Michigan

Lansing, Mich., June 7, 2012 – Lansing-based Epic-MRA today released new statewide poll results that spell trouble for Obama and Democrats in Michigan. The poll demonstrates Mitt Romney’s strength in Michigan, as middle class tax payers compare Obama’s failed record with Mitt Romney’s record of creating jobs.

According to the poll, Romney leads Obama, 46-45 percent respectively. In April, the same poll had Obama leading Romney, 47-43 percent respectively. What’s happened in two months? The national economy continues to suffer under President Obama’s failed leadership.

Matt Frendewey, communications director for the Michigan Republican Party issued the following statement:

“Today’s poll results demonstrates Mitt Romney’s growing strength in Michigan. President Obama’s record of failed leadership and broken promises have hurt middle class families. Obama’s reckless policies are burdening our country with an unsustainable amount of debt. Mitt Romney understands the importance of making tough decisions, sound fiscal policy and common sense governance. Michigan’s hard working middle class families are ready to be the road block in Obama’s attempt for a second term.”

Sadly, as a result of Obama’s failed leadership the national unemployment rate has remained above 8 percent for a record setting 40 months, and in May the national unemployment rate rose to 8.2 percent.

Meanwhile, Obama and his campaign surrogates continue to wage a war on the private sector, resulting in scorn and rebuttals from members of the President’s own party.

Gov. Mitt Romney has a record of job creation. He’s not afraid to make the tough decision necessary to turn the national economy around.

The election is still months away, and polls will fluctuate between now and election day, but today’s poll results clearly demonstrates that as more voters learn of Obama’s failed record and empty rhetoric, they’ll continue to support the Mitt Romney’s strong leadership and record of job creation.

Chairman Tountas Responds to Pete Hoekstra Ad with Letter to the Editor

Tom Watkins, a former Michigan state superintendent of schools, took to this forum Tuesday for the purpose of criticizing former Congressman Pete Hoekstra’s Super Bowl advertisement. Lost in that commentary was any recognition of our federal government’s dysfunctional relationship with China. That’s unfortunate because, at the hands of President Obama and Debbie Stabenow, the relationship has gotten worse.

It’s no secret that our federal government is addicted to borrowing and spending. We are currently $14 trillion in debt, and around 25 percent of that sum is owed to China, a habitual currency manipulator with a deplorable human rights record. That fact, as opposed to a 30-second television commercial, should outrage Mr. Watkins, who in past columns portrayed himself as an advocate for trade reforms. Instead, Mr. Watkins invites us to sugarcoat that disturbing reality and, presumably, the fiscal recklessness of Stabenow and her colleagues in the Democrat-controlled Senate, who haven’t bothered to pass a budget in 1,000 days. That is an invitation a growing number of Americans feel compelled to decline.

Congressman Hoekstra was right to challenge Stabenow’s abysmal record on the economy. It’s also hard to take Mr. Watkins’ purported outrage seriously; after all, in 2006 his computer keyboard was tightly locked when “Hurricane Jenny” Granholm ripped then-candidate Dick DeVos for doing business in China. Apparently, it wasn’t culturally insensitive when Ms. Granholm, the architect of 600,000 vanished jobs during Michigan’s lost decade, bemoaned Amway for doing a little business in China, while ignoring the hundreds of workers they employ in Michigan. Mr. Watkins would do well to remember that, in editorial commentary, as in politics, consistency is key.

Finally, Mr. Watkins’ suggestion that Congressman Hoekstra, who emigrated from the Netherlands, is a xenophobe should be seen for what it is: unfortunate hyperbole. The people of this community won’t be fooled by that baseless charge. In fact, Congressman Hoekstra’s consistent voting record and wide-ranging base of support substantiate what we’ve known for years: He is a man of the highest personal integrity. We need a senator who is willing to speak the truth; not one who would ignore the origin of our recession in the name of political correctness.

I’m proud to stand with Congressman Hoekstra in his bid to unseat Debbie Stabenow, and encourage everyone to do likewise. It’s time to get serious about our economic challenges. It’s time to get this nation back on track.
